Above The Clouds being honored

Above the Clouds founder and executive director, Linda Wade, was honored on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the 3rd Annual Black Child Development Institute.

Linda was among other special guest such as:
Toshiba Adams (Early Childhood Education), Ronn Johnson (Education), CC Henderson (Milwaukee Health Services), Supervisor Elizabeth Coggs (Government), Dr. Hillary Wynn (Mental Health), Brandon Hines (Religion), Earl Ingram (Sports), Ashiyemi Adelabu (Avocacy), Debra Fields (Chilld Welfare), Michael Watts (Community Partnerships) & Robert & Betty Plyes (Corporate-McDonalds).

Since 2002, Above the Clouds (ATC) has provided a safe and loving after‐school environment where Milwaukee’s most vulnerable children can express themselves through ballet, cheerleading, drama, interpretive dance, music and different forms and mediums of art at no charge.

Wade started ATC because she had seen first‐hand the power of the arts in helping children thrive. With so many Milwaukee Public Schools cutting back or eliminating arts instruction and exposure, she saw a significant need that was going unmet. Milwaukee parents are looking for a safe and positive place for their children to go – not just to hang out, but to learn and grow through the arts. Through ATC classes, children experience new levels of accomplishment. And, as a faith‐based nonprofit, ATC offers a place where our students can feel the love of Christ.

“I’m very honored and humbled by this recognition,” said Wade. “I’m so proud of what our children are achieving every day in our classes. They are the ones who deserve the attention.”

The banquet was held at the Italian Community Center.  Visit www.bcdi-milwaukee.org for more information.
